Nail Polish Vintage yet Modern

Nail Polish Vintage yet Modern

Nail Polish Vintage yet Modern , This year my husband and I decorated the house in lights, and put up some fuss in the house in the way of decorations. Unfortunately we didn't get to partake in so many Christmas parties as we'd hoped. Our neighbors invited us over for a viewing in their backyard of It's a Wonderful Life. It was our first time going there for a social event and I wanted to make a good impression. So I set out to make a vintage yet modern Christmas tree art. I used Julep: Glen for most of the nails and then Cynthia Crowley for the accent nails. Both of these colors are absolutely glorious. The formula was great and dried super fast. My only complaint was that the Cynthia Crowley (green color with no name) was HORRIBLE to take off. Stained my nails something awful. The other colors I used on the tree and snow were: American Apparel Galaxy, OPI Golden Eye, Milani Black Sketch, Revlon Calla Lily. The shape of the tree was modern to me and the overall look with the OPI Golden Eye added a vintage touch. What are your thoughts? Feelings? Concerns?

Nail Polish 100th Post!!

Nail Polish 100th Post!!

Nail Polish 100th Post!!, My goodness, 100 posts in less than 1 year. I never even thought I could get to this point. I thought I might loose the love of polish by now at the rate I was acquiring it, but my hobby gives me so much joy and is my creative relief, so I will continue to share and enjoy all my beautiful polish. Incidentally I am up to 724 polishes as of today and that doesn't count what's coming in the mail to me :) . This might sound like a lot to some of you but this is completely normal in the nail polish blogging world. I'm fortunate to have a supportive husband who doesn't give me a hard time about the time I spend on my nails, and I have no (human) children yet so I have more time than the average working mom to indulge in my nails.

For this 100th post I have a combination of OPI Live and Let Die and Milani Signature Gold stamping design. I used a plate I got from Amazon.com and chose the circles because they reminded me of gears. I forgot to take a pic of OPI Live and Let Die on it's own but if you google images of it you can see it's a gorgeous deep teal with gold shimmer. It's from the James Bond collection and truly unique easy 1 coater. Please forgive me for just having 2 pics. These were the best I could get.

Thanks for following and your kind words.

Nail Polish Red White and Blue

Nail Polish Red White and Blue

Nail Polish Red White and Blue, During the holiday weekend I didn't do much but polish my nails and toes different combinations of red white and blue. I'll be posting my patriotic pedicure in the next post...Unfortunately this year I didn't get to partake in our local fireworks like I normally do because my little one was not feeling too festive. At least my nails were in the spirit! What were you wearing for the 4th?

Here is OPI Mariah Carey Pure, Milani White on the Spot, Butter London Pillar Box Red, Anise Hello Sailor, and Zoya Gilty.

I like the combination of the white and yellow gold together. ZOYA's gold has a lot more presence while OPI is more subtle.

Ruffian to the 3rd Power

Ruffian is the term for the manicure that features 2 colors and the second color starts further down from the cuticle. I haven't seen too many other names for this type of manicure so I'm going with it. lol I recently bought 7 of the OPI Germany collection and was trying to create a look using two of the colors that I thought were pretty funky, when I decided to go crazy with the ruffian. I started out with OPI Don't Talk Bach to Me. A gorgeous light olive creme that went on like a dream. It reminded me of guacamole my absolute fav!

Then I added Suzi and the Seven Dusseldorfs. When I looked at my nails I felt like they were missing something, so I grabbed Milani Silver Stilettos and Black Swift and kept the Ruffian pattern going to the end of the nail. Here's what I got:

The Suzi and the Seven Dusseldorfs gave be a bit of a problem because it was a little streaky and definitely not  1 coater. However I love the color. For this technique it is best to use 1 coaters so your lines come out crisp the first time around and you don't feel compelled to go over them.

Red Black and White

On August 11th my uncle threw my aunt a surprise 50th birthday party. It was a true surprise since her birthday is not until September! The theme was the Roaring 20's. I have no idea how women wore their nails in the 20's but I knew I wanted to mirror mine after the gangster suit my husband was wearing. So I added a half moon mani with white strips. Using the existing Zoya Nidhi, and Miliani White on the Spot and Black Swift. I wish I would have done it sooner because I could clean my cuticles and I did have some new growth, so it's not as perfect as I'd like, but it worked. Unfortunately I only got one picture :( . Thoughts? Feelings? Concerns?

Milani Ombre

I've been seeing so many beautiful ombres this summer and decided to do one myself. I was about to do one with orange shades and then I realized I had a few pretty pinks from Milani that I could put together and I normally don't wear pink so it was an obvious decision. The formula of Milani polishes is one of the best I have used. Not one single polish I have of theirs disappoints. Very creamy, consistent, with plenty of coverage. Here is my pink ombre: Thoughts? Feelings? Concerns?

Happy 4th of July!!!!!

This is only my favorite holiday in the entire year next to Thanksgiving. Really and truly it is. I love fireworks too much for my old age, and its the only holiday in the summer where everyone gets out and celebrates together. There are no politics about which family members house you are going to this year, or fake pretenses, just good old American fun. It's not commercialized the same as Christmas and Valentines Day, AND it represents the independence of our great country! So yes I love this holiday and look forward to it all year.

Today I decided to do just alternate base colors with a glitter I got from Icing back in May. I didn't want to obsess over making perfect stars and stripes and I wanted a confetti look. Here it is:

The colors I used were Milani Rapid Cherry, Milani White on the Spot and the blue has no name or brand. I got it from my local nail supply store in the clearance bin. I think I'm going to throw it out because it smelled awful and stained my cuticles. God only knows the chemicals in there. It was a 1 coater for sure and it dried in 2 nano seconds (it seemed) and the color is beautiful, but I won't take the chance thta it has some foul chemicals.

The glitter on top is Icing Patriotic Princess. It has holo stars which I love, and although thick in consistency like most glitter polishes, it was easy to apply and place the glitter. Plenty of stars too!

Needle Art with Milani

I have been meaning to venture out and try new designs with some simple techniques but I haven't had the courage, patience, or time lately. I decided that I needed to at least try the needle artwork I have seen others do and do it with 3 colors from the Milani collection we received in one of our Bloggers meet. This seemed like such a simple technique with major impact. I'm all about major impact with minimal effort, I prefer to spend my time perfecting my application an enjoying the effects of the polish.

The formula on all these was great Especially the Mint Candy. It reminds me of a combination of Ulta Mint Condition and China Glaze For Audrey. The difference with Mint Candy is that it has a slight shimmer in a teal that compliments the base perfectly. The same is true for Pink & Proper; they are definitely a compliment of each other.

Although this technique was not the difficult, it does take some practice with how deep to go with the needle and how much polish you need to get the even spread on each side. I will try this again in different forms because I just love the effect.

I've been playing with my lighting and angles as I grow in my blogging. Above is natural light and below is artificial.

Have any of you tried this technique? Thoughts? Feelings? Concerns?

Zoya Alegra

The first polish from Zoya I decided to try from my haul was Alegra. It's practically a dupe of Sarah, but I didn't care I had to have them both :).Alegra is a bright fushia with pink undertones. I was so frustrated with how this color photographs. I tried my hardest to capture the dimension but it didn't come out very well. So here she is:

Above is Alegra in full on natural light, below is natural light too but you can see the difference. My camera did not like this color :(

Below is Alegra in the shade

Below is in artificial light. This is 2 coats and you can see there is VNL (visible nail line). I didn't add a third coat because I knew i was going to add to this

I wanted to try a look that I have seen and just thought was so classy. I have no idea what the official term for it is, but basically all you do is start the polish from far below the cuticle line. Let me know if there is a term for this so I can be more accurate in my description the next time I try this:

I absolutely love this look the same way I love the gradient glitter look! Anything that is simple and easy to do with major impact is my kind of artwork.

I couldn't leave it alone so I added a Stripe with Milani Black Sketch.

Milani Key West with Confetti Tazmanian Devil

The last manicure I did lasted 1 whole day because I was so unhappy with the look. I decided to finally try the gradient glitter look which I've seen on so many blogs and loved but never tried it. I set out 4 different color combos and had Mr. NPT pick. and this is what he picked. First I want to show you Milani: Key West which is a gorgeous color on it's own. Easy to apply, great formula, 1 coat and amazing shimmer effect. It was a nightmare to take off though. Stained my nails like no body's business!

Add to that 3 coats of Confetti: Tazmanian Devil sponged on the tips and this is what you get:

It reminds me of an aquarium for some reason or a mermaid's tail. I love this look and it was so simple and easy to do. I will be doing way more of these this summer.

Ruth's Nails - Guest Appearance

My coworker Ruth bites her nails, and her skin, and anything else that sticks out to annoy her on her hands. She has worn artificial nails in the past but ultimately for the past few years just neglected her nails. She was inspired by Nail Polish Therapy to begin taking care of her nails, so I gave her a mani to give her a kick start. We then went shopping for some polishes and essential nail care items. Now Ruth is addicted to nail polish blogs and anxious to start  practicing her skills on her mom and looking forward to doing her own nails as soon as this mani wears off. Therapy worked!

For this look on the base I used OPI-Teal the Cows Come Home, then for the design I used BM plate 224 with Milani-White on the Spot, dots were Milani-Yellow Whiz and Fast Fushia. Thoughts? Feelings? Concerns?

April is Autism Awareness Month - Wear Blue!!

Some of you already know that April is the month of Autism Awareness and to honor those who live with Autism nail polish bloggers are wearing blue. I wanted to keep in the theme of Spring and so I did this simple mani with colors I haven't used yet. Since I have over 400 polishes now :).

The pointer nails are Julep-Blake with Revlon-Whimsical on top. The rest of the nails are Milani-Beachfront. My camera doesn't do justice to the Milani-Beachfront. It has a fine silver shimmer that is even spread through all the polish. I was impressed with the formula of Julep-Blake, but the color itself was nothing that wow'd me. I'm glad that I didn't purchase this. Thoughts? Feelings? Concerns?

Easter Mani

I didn't do anything special on Easter except go out to eat after work. We had all you can eat crabs at Cityfish in downtown Orlando. The night before I stayed up late coming up with an Easter mani and pedi combo. Sorry to say that  I didn't take pics of my toes but here is my simple rendition of a spring French Manicure.

I used the colors below, which came out so crappy in the picture. I seriously need a new camera.

Revlon Sunshine Sparkle, Essie Mint Candy Apple, Milani White on the Spot, Color Club with no color label :(, Essie Lilacism, Revlon Blue Lagoon.
